Training takes place every Monday

7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
@
Haltemprice Leisure Centre
Springfield Way
Anlaby
Hull

Due to the nature of the training students must be at least 16 years old.

The training itself varies from week to week, every week training starts with a rigourous warm-up followed by freefighting, technique demonstrations or syllabus work.

Some newcomers like to throw themselves in at the deep end and join in straight away, others are welcome to come and watch training sessions and talk to the instructors if they are interested but not too sure. Either way, newcomers at any level are always welcome.

Fee's

The Sports Centre currently charges £3.10 for entrance and use of the facilities within the building. This includes mats, showers etc. As a club we ask every member to pay 30p 'subs' every time they train. This money is collected by the treasurer Paul Rudd and is used to purchase training equipment such as strike shields, focus pads, body armour, breaking boards, training weapons and other items to make your training more realistic and therefore more beneficial. Other items such as personal protection equipment are left to member discretion to purchase.

What to wear?

Initially it is best to use loose fitting clothes, tracksuits, t-shirts etc. as the there is no point spending a lot of money on a Judo-Gi if you are not going to continue with the art. However do not wear your best sports gear as accidents do happen and due to the nature of some of the locks, holds and throws, un-strengthened clothing can rip.

The club does supply t-shirts at a cost of £5.75 which are good quality and all of the money goes back into the club.

Eventually you may want to purchase a Judo-Gi, these can be supplied by Sensi John Morfoot cheaper and of better quality than local sports shops.

Insurance

Unfortunately in the age that we live in of claim and counter claim, everyone who trains with us has to take out an insurance policy against personal injury. It is not good enough to say "It won't happen to me." The club is affiliated to Sportscover UK and are able to arrange everything on your behalf, the cost being £10.00 a year. If you think this is expensive wait until you become an instructor.
